1. I’ll need a clear reference photo with good lighting to work from. This allows me to capture the details needed to create your portrait. Please feel free to send me multiple images, and I can help you choose the one that will work best. To help guide you, I’ve included an example of a good and poor reference photo below.

Step by Step Guide…

A clear well lit photo allows me to capture the subject’s unique features, expression and the fine details, whether that’s the texture of their fur, the sparkle in their eyes, or subtle facial features. Natural daylight is best, and the photo should be in focus. Avoid dark, blurry, filtered or distant images as this makes it difficult to see the details.

2. Decide what size you would like your portrait to be. I offer A5, A4 and A3. Prices vary depending on size and how many subjects you would like included. Please see Sizes & Prices for more details. If you require a larger portrait, please ask and I can let you know if this is possible.

3. To secure your booking I kindly ask for a 20% deposit. Portraits take time, and to achieve the best results I want to avoid rushing and get the details just right, so if you would like your portrait for a specific occasion I’d encourage you to book early. However, if you’ve left it a little late, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I will always do my best to fit in urgent requests whenever possible.

4. I will let you know when I am about to begin your portrait and keep you updated as I work on it, so you can feel reassured about how it is progressing.

5. Once I have completed your portrait, I will send you a photo for you to check over. When you are completely happy with the final drawing, I will then spray it with a fixative to prevent the graphite smudging. I will mount the drawing using a textured, off white, acid free mount board and backing board, then carefully place it into a clear protective sleeve. Along with your finished portrait, I will include a Certificate of Authenticity and a Care Guide, that will give you a few tips how to look after your artwork to keep it safe. Finally, this will be presented wrapped in tissue paper and finished with ribbon for that extra special touch.

6.On completion of your portrait, I will ask for the remaining balance to be paid, including any necessary postage. For UK customers, a fixed fee of £10 will be added on to the final balance to cover the cost of postage and packaging. For customers overseas, postage cost will vary depending on size and destination, so I will quote for this at the time of booking. On receipt of payment, I will pack and dispatch your finished portrait. I use secure packaging to ensure it will be protected in transit and send via Royal Mail special delivery.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’m always happy to help.
